Use Google Maps to create and save maps of your favorite paddle trips.  You will need to create a Google Maps account to name and save your maps, if you have Gmail you already have an account.   Use the Google Maps features to mark the put-in, take-out, and features on your chosen water way.  Over time we will accumulate a collection of maps that will help all club members get on new rivers and streams.  When you get ready to go pull up a map and use Google Maps to get directions to the put-in and directions for shuttle routes.  You can print the directions and take then with you.  Each marked location on Google Maps also lists the Latitude and Longitude for that location.  The Lat / Log can be entered into your mobile GPS to give you directions while you drive.  Maps can be for whitewater rivers and creeks as well as non-whitewater streams and rivers.  I have posted two maps to provide examples of what can be done with this technology.  If you have questions reply to this post and I will do my best to get an answer.

A couple of tips for using the maps.  When a map is first opened it will be zoomed way out.  The easy way to bring it in to an easily viewed scale it to click on one of the features listed on the left side of the page - for instance click on the put-in link.  From there use the sliding zoom scale on the map to zoom in closer or to zoom out to get more on the map.  Another feature that is useful is to switch the view to Satellite view.  When you zoom in using the Satellite view you can actually see parking lots and rapids on the river or stream.  Use the get directions feature to find the shuttle route between the put-in and the take-out.

This create a map thing is very interesting. I know that AWW has maps for use as well as mapquest software for users (for certain runs). I just got finished hand drawing a map of Green House Park. I even put in where the 4 ground hogs live. How can I up load it?  Undecided
