Hoping to get out this Sunday if I can get some people interested--thinking possibly the Lehigh if it is around at least 500 or 550. I have done it this low and found it to be very doable and fun.  White Haven weather prediction says sunny, high of 38.

Still thinking.  Codorus might be a better bet.

Codorus looks like it is good for the weekend.

So is the Gunpowder.

GPG is a nice choice.

My choice would be 1) lehigh or GPG/gunpowder 2) upper schuylkill (suggested on an email) 3) codorus in that order, but I am totally flexible...just want to get out and so I am up for whatever the group decides...maybe we can firm up at the pool session?

It seems that my pick up trip that Pete says I am leading, I say I only "instigated," has branched off into two viable trips--a critical mass going to Gunpowder for a bunch of pfds and me and Bob A. off to the the Upper Lehigh.  Sorry, but the Poconos are calling me;  I can already smell the good air not to mention the bakery.   FYI we are meeting at at the Lickdale General Store and Camp Ground off I-81 exit 90 at 9am.

An uneventful paddle of the Upper Lehigh by three may not really warrant a trip report, but here is a short one, just because it is super cool to be paddling through the winter right into February.  A reverse shuttle  masterminded by RB and Bob A. made the day flow nicely.  I still cannot figure out this shuttle thing, and most trips I still can at least once be heard saying "now where do I put my dry clothes??"  First, the bakery run in the am was a delight and more, and the prices are right, but this time it didn't matter as RB treated us to spare us from worrying about carrying cash on the water. The sun broke out of the clouds before we even hit the water, but still was not enough to bring the temperatures to even near the predicted high of 43. It was probably around 32 on the water with a light breeze.  But it was just beautiful and we only had to share the river briefly--once with a solo fisherman and briefly with a small group of boaters that were reconnoitering or maybe somehow running a low trib--I think it may have been the Black.  Kayaking a fair bit this fall and winter has distilled my fear of cold water down to more of a healthy respect, but still I did little in the way of playing whereas Rick got on a lot of waves and did his usual smooth effortless catching of the harder eddies.  Bob A. regaled us with a lot of amazing stories about all the many rivers he has paddled and outdoor adventures he has had over the years.  It's a privilege to get to know some of these long time members, and you begin to realize that this club really has some very special people in it with a huge amount of experience in boats and life.  It was a great day.  But "I'm not gonna lie": it was cold!

Just have to add my 2 cents.

Aiming to save us time and miles I suggested we meet at Rockport. I waited along I-81 at exit 141 for Bob and Kathryn and then headed to Rockport. Once there we loaded boats into and onto my van for the ride to the putin and then Bob got my boat and gear in his truck to get me back to my van at the end of the trip.

Now to clarify Kathryn's statement about the cold.

Was it cold ?? Ah... YES... NO... and YES !!!!! Perfectly clear... right ??

YES it was cold... while we geared up at Rockport.

NO we weren't cold once geared up,
OR on the ride to White Haven,
OR during the stop at the White Haven Bakery as we picked out some pre-paddle carbs,
OR while we sat in my van at the putin eating our selections,
OR while we were on the water as we all commented how nice the sunny day was and that we were not cold at all while paddling. The stop at Lunch Rock was a bit windy and cooled us all down a bit but we were nice and warm once back on the water.

And finally YES.... IT WAS COLD....
...... once we took out at Rockport, the parking lot in total shade, add in some wind, hands fumbling with wet gear as we got out of our paddling stuff and back into street clothes.
My hands and feet were numb by the time I got changed, but warmed back up by the time we got back to my van at White Haven.

A very nice day on the water this bright sunny February day in 2012.
I believe this gives me my very first day of paddling in February... and since I paddled the first day of the year in January... I'm well on my way to my very first year of paddling at least one day of every month of a given year.
Here's to a great start to 2012 !!! See you on the water in March for the Tohickon and the Red Mo Race !!!

Hey, I have to have the last word RB!  No really I don't, but it's so true...it was very comfortable while paddling pretty much the whole time.  Body warm, hands warm, even thought about rolling to cool off at one point, but it wasn't quite necessary.  But before and after was crisp and cold!  It is amazing how the gear and movement keeps you warm.
