Shawn and I would like to join you on this trip.  I've never run it, but I believe I'm ready.  Shawn's ready to support!

Beth, Shawn good to have you along.

For anyone wishing to join in the fun on Stonycreek we are meeting at the 601 bridge putin at 10:30.  Anyone wanting to carpool out we will meet at the Flying J truck stop in Carlisle at 7:45, on the road by 8:00 (get there earlier if you need to get gas or want to stop at Dunkin Donuts).

Here is a google map with placemarkers for Flying J, the putin and the take out.

Chris,
Is this a typical run the river trip, catching play spots on the way down, or a Greenhouse Park play trip? Do you know what the level is going to be? Dam release?

This is a normal down river run with stops for surfing and play.  The release will be 500 cfs.  The currentl natural flow is 500 cfs.  The level all three days of Stonycreek Rendezvous was 1000 cfs.  If the release will bring the level above 1300 cfsw they will cancel the release and we run the river on natural flow.  There are thunderstorms predicted for the area Friday night so I will check the levels Saturday morning.  I think we are good at levels below 1500 cfs.

Got an email from my benscreek friend saying stoneycreek release is off or tomorrow due to an unusual incident involving a  log about 10 feet long and 12” in diameter that rammed into the screens and got lodged in the intake tower.

Hopefully the rains can bring the river up??

If this turns out to be false or is rectified I'll post, but in my email string was an email straight from the Cambria Somerset Authority.

The current level is 450 cfs / 3.15 ft.  AW list low runnable at approx 400 cfs / 3.0 ft.  We will get some rain this tonight and maybe tomorrow morning.  With no release and a little rain the level should be great for the first timers that are coming along.  I will be going regardless.

If you used the map in the post below to locate the put in, be aware that we are meeting at the putin down stream of Hollsopple.  On the Google map it is labeled alternate put-in and it is where Rt 601 crosses the river about a mile or so east of Hollsopple (technically on the outer edge of Seanor).  Still meeting at 10:30.

Water level is a comfortable 737 and dropping.  The level works with or without a release, see you at the put-in.

Forecast for Johnstown is only 69 with clouds, dress warmer than you think is needed.
