Cheat (First Timers) on May 20th

   The storm on Wednesday brought enough rain that the trip looks like a "go". The Cheat will probably be low but above minimum. I have a homeowners association meeting Sat am (19th) and that leaves 2 possibilities. First is to hold the trip as an "out'n'back" on Sunday, the second is to drive out to the Lower Yough around noon on Sat and make a late run on the LY (or possibly just the loop), camp overnight and run the Cheat in the am.

  Substantial portions of the Cheat basin got hit by "noreaster" (counterclockwise storm rotation that repeatedly hits an area with spiral bands). The Cheat is cresting at Parsons and should crest in Albright around 2pm on Saturday. I will monitor the level but as of now, I don't think it will drop enough to have the first timers trip.
  I am thinking about where else we might go to paddle on Sunday. The Lower Yough and Shenandoah Staircase are the leading candidates.
   If you look at historical decay curves, the Cheat should hold up at a decent level until next weekend. Sat the 26th is our tentative fallback date for the Cheat First Timer's trip. - Lee

  Due to unexpectedly high water conditions, the First Timers Cheat has been moved  to the Lower Yough. We will meet at the Flying J (I-81 exit 52) at 7:15am.
  The Cheat should be at a good level for the First Timer's trip next Saturday - the current plan.
