The trip will take us past Hummelstown, under the massive Reading Railroad bridge,
under Rt.322, through Fiddler’s Elbow, past Indian Echo Caverns and finish at
Fulling Mill Road (just upstream from PA-283). It should take about 3 hours and is
mostly flatwater, with occasional swifts. A great cure for cabin fever. |

For anyone who has never gone on a CCGH Pine Creek Weekend trip and has wondered
what it might be like, it is a three day weekend affair combining paddling on one of Pennsylvania’s
most scenic waterways with primitive camping. This is a true canoe camping event.
You have to carry all of the gear you need in your boat for two nights of wilderness camping.
We paddle in on Friday and out on Sunday. We camp at the same site for both nights and Saturday
is left up to your own choices of hiking, fishing or just relaxing around camp.

Middle Creek flows thru the center of Snyder County. The section of the creek that we do
has wild flowers covering both banks. Depending on when spring arrives, we might just
have a lovely paddle thru spring woods OR we might see columbine, spring beauties, adders tooth,
violets, Virginia bluebells etc. Animals abound along this stream - mink, ospreys, an occasional eagle,
hawks, owls, pilated woodpeckers, deer, raccoons, groundhogs, squirrels etc.
This is a class I scenic stream but there are several tricky sections. |

This is a trip for anyone interested in practicing the skills needed to enjoy canoe/kayak camping.
Novices need not be intimidated by primitive camping conditions.
The evening camping will be at a campground with full toilet and shower facilities.
However, since the intention is to learn how to do wilderness camping, all participants will be
transporting their own camping, cooking and food gear with them in their boats.
We intend to paddle an interesting stretch of the Juniata River, from Mcveytown to Cuba Mills.
This includes the Narrows below Lewistown and a stop at the recently restored Pennsylvania Canal Lift Lock No. 13.
Please sign up early if you intend to participate, as campground reservations need to be made for the group. |

Combined trip with other organizations. This is the combined CCGH &
Susquehanna Chapter of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association &
Western Pennsylvania Paddle Sports Association New Jersey, Pine Barrens trip.
The NJ Pine Barrens offers a wide choice of rivers, all beautiful and delightful to paddle and explore.
There is also hiking on the Batona Trail. Normally we leave the Harrisburg area early Thursday morning
and paddle Thursday afternoon before setting up camp at Atsion Family Campground NJ State Park.
Paddle Friday, Saturday, break camp Sunday morning and paddle a convenient stream, then head home.
NJ does NOT have an on-line campground reservation system.
