Ok, it’s time to start planning for the 2018 Florida Week of Rivers trip. The first trip will be on Sunday March 11 with trips each day through Thursday Mar 16. Right now I can get camp sites (both tent and trailer) at Rodman Campground on the north side of the Ocala National Forest. We will reserve sites for 6 nights, Saturday night through Thursday night. Due to the un-availability of camp sites elsewhere, and the logistics of moving, I plan to stay at this location for all 6 nights. This means we will not get to the Naples area, Mound Key, or the Everglades as I had initially hoped.

There are many available trips in this area and right now I have included the Ocklawaha River, Alexander Springs / Alexander Creek, Wekiva River / Rock Springs Run, Blackwater Creek, and a return to Sliver Springs / Sliver River. If we get a very large group we may run two trips a day allowing a return to more of the rivers and springs we saw last year.

Right now Rodman Campground has enough sites available to accommodate all the paddlers that want to go. I don’t know how long these sites will be available so confirm your participation as soon as you can and I will book sites accordingly. These campgrounds allow two tents per site and two cars. Last year the paddlers paired up to travel and camp together and we put 4 to a site. I would plan on two travel days getting there and home. We will meet at the campground Saturday evening to set meeting times and logistics for the first paddle on Sunday morning. There is no group plan for meals, last year some pairs cooked at camp while others ate at restaurants.

If you have not already contacted me directly and want to be added to the list of those definitely attending reply to this post, email me, holladcd@gmail.com, or call (I’m in the club booklet).

Looking forward to another great trip.

Thanks everyone for your interest in this trip. At this point I have to close the trip as we have reached what I consider the max manageable size – 20 paddlers. You can see the list of signed up paddlers in the original post. I will keep a waiting list of those interested in going because it is highly likely that one or more of those signed up may have to back out for some unforeseen reason.

I will send an email to all those signed up asking you to work on pairing up for travel and camping – the campground allows 2 cars and two tents on each site. I know there are a couple people who are traveling in a single vehicle due to events before or after the trip. If needed or if desired I / you can reserve a site and split it two ways instead of 4. We can discuss further by phone or in the email.

With such a large group we can offer two trips each day and split up, all of which can be discussed when we get there and adjusted based on things like weather and length of trips.

Looking forward to the trip, talk to you all soon.
