    Florida Week of Rivers 2019:
You can never start planning for the Florida Week of Rivers too early – so this year we are starting in August instead of October.
The 2019 Florida Week or Rivers will actually cover 3 weeks. The primary week is Sunday 3 March, through 8 March, depart on the 9th.
In addition to the primary week we are also planning paddles for the week before the primary week ( arrive 24 Feb, paddle 25 February to 2 March, depart 3 Mar) , and the week after the primary week (Arrive 9 Mar, paddle 10 March to 14 March, depart 15 Mar).

The primary week will be based out of the Rodman Campground, the same campground we used last year. The rivers we will paddle have not been firmed up yet but will likely include favorites from the last two years as well as a couple new rivers.

The first week is based out of the Wright Lake Campground in the Apalachiacola National Forest. This week will focus on Pan Handle rivers. The 3d week will be based out of the Collier-Seminole Campground (on Rt 90 between Naples and Everglades City). The rivers to be paddled are still being researched but will likely include open water paddles in the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve / Mound Key Archaeological Park, mangrove water trails around Everglades City, and more.
There are currently tent and RV sites available at Wright Lake, Rodman and Collier-Seminole Campgrounds. Participants are responsible for booking their own sites this year. Just Google search reservations, Rodman Campground or reservations, Collier-Seminole Campground and you will find a ReserveAmerica reservation page for each camp ground. Follow the prompts to select dates, find available sites, and book sites. For Wright Lake Campground use the Recreation.gov site to make reservations.
Participants are encouraged to buddy up and share sites. Tent sites allow two tents and two vehicles. Trailer sites allow two vehicles and a tent in addition to the trailer.
Please post on the messageboard if you are attending, and which week or weeks. Post questions as well.

I will be doing one week but need to determine which one.

My 1st choice might be week #3 but will firm up once I do some research and let you know.

Thank you for working hard to organize.

I will be going on week #3 based out of Collier-Seminole campground.

The plan is to ‘rent’ some real estate for my tent from Lisa and Bart on their site that week.

      Looking forward to this.

I have booked a campsite at both Rodman and Collier if anyone wants to double up with me that would be nice. I have a small camper van so someone with a car and tent would work out well.

We have found a campground for the Panhandle week. The campground is Wright Lake Campground, Apalachicola National Forest. For those attending this first week we will paddle Monday 25 February through Saturday 2 March. Arrive on 24 Feb, depart on 3 March and check into Rodman on 3 March. Feel free to join us for the whole week or part of the week. Those attending are responsible for making their own site reservations. Use this website for reservations. https://www.recreation.gov/ . Most sites accommodate trailers however there are no sites (that I saw) with water or electricity so you get to practice dry camping with your rig. I have booked site 18 and I can share my site with an additional vehicle and up to 3 people. I have updated the initial post in this string with this information.

We have booked campsite #45 at Rodman and site #64 at Collier-Seminole for the 3rd week. Looks like we will only be able to do the second week at Rodman. If someone wants our site at Collier, let me know. I will wait a few weeks, if no one wants it I will cancel it.

      Chris,
Lori Orslene (Baer) here. Lisa’s sister. I just joined the club so I can join you again on your Florida river explorations. I have made a reservation at Rodman campground, Site 1 so please count me in for attending Week 2. There is no longer any RV availability at the Collier-Seminole campground so I’m trying to come up with alternate accommodations so I can join you for Week 3 even if it means pitching a tent! Thanks.

      Chris,
Please count me in for week #3 (in addition to week #2). I looked it up and there are 2 tents allowed per RV site at Collier-Seminole, so I will be the second tent on site #31 (Lisa & Bart) w/Kathy (Tent #1). Thanks!

      Lori

PS: Thank you Ethel for being willing to share your site!

A heads up about Florida week 1. Just chatted with the Recreation Manager at Apalachicola Nat. Forest who said “No Way” will Wrights Lake be open by the time of our trip. People who made reservations will receive emails to that effect. She recommended Mack Landing as a campground alternative, or dispersed camping anywhere in the forest for people who are self contained (i.e., who don’t need bathroom facilities) and flexible. (Dispersed camping is free.). I’ll be there a few days in advance to check out our options. Stay tuned!
