Thanks to Neil for organizing a FUN West Virginia weekend of paddling. Friday, on the way to WV, Neil, Phil, Bob, and Chris paddled the Upper Yough in MD. Saturday, a thunderstorm rolled in as we started paddling down the Lower Gauley river. Mark showed our group (Phil, John, Bob, Chris, Jennifer, Vern, Bart, Neil, and Marybeth) the lines. This was Bart and John’s PFD. Thanks to Joe for taking a break from his studying to run shuttle for us, a big time saver. The weather cleared and was beautiful, sunny and upper 80’s. Lower Gauley USGS above Belva 3.9 ft., 2600 CFS.
Sunday, some of us headed home and some took a break and hiked down to Pillow Rock rapid on the Upper Gauley while others in the group ran the Lower Gauley, and the New River on Monday. It was exciting to watch the boaters and rafters run the rapid.
Click here to view some pics from the Upper Yough and Lower Gauley river trips. The videos have a small icon in the upper right hand corner of the image. They take a few seconds longer to load and are fun to watch. When you click on a photo, and then the “i” in the upper right hand corner it gives you more of a description of the photo.
