I know it’s early but we are planning for the 2020 Florida Week(s) of Rivers as I write this. We are trying to do a week 1 in the area just south and east of Tampa. This is a very popular area and the campgrounds are very difficult to book – for one site let alone 10 or 15. The earlier we make reservations the better. Below is the schedule. We are working to identify a campground that can accommodate a group our size for the first week – Tampa area. When we do announce this campground I recommend you make reservations as quickly as possible. Immediate reservations for weeks 2 and 3 are not as critical however we will let everyone know as soon as we decide on a campground. The second week will be back in the Ocala area however we have not settled on Rodman as the base of operations. We are looking at campgrounds in the Ocala National Forest which are a little closer to the favorite runs and potentially are a little cheaper, especially if you have a National Park Senior pass or team up with someone that does. The third week will be in the Panhandle area and may involve a midweek move to the western panhandle. The campground has not been identified yet.

Week 1, Tampa Area, arrive Sunday 8 March, depart Sunday 15 March.

Week 2, Ocala Area, arrive Sunday 15 March, depart Sunday 22 March.

Week 3, Panhandle Area, arrive Sunday 22 March, depart Saturday 28 March – or whenever you schedule dictates.

You can join us for one week or all three. I recommend the Ocala area week if you have not been before.

Regardless of what week you go I recommend that you partner up for campsites. Attendees are responsible for making their own campground reservations.

Keep an eye on the messageboards, we should have a decision on the week 1 campground in the next 3 to 5 days.

Let me know if you are going and what weeks, I’ll keep a list to help with site sharing.

Hope to see you in Florida next year. Look for a club program in the fall with all the photos from the trip.

Ok, after extensive research – mostly by John, we have determined that Highland Hammock State Park will accommodate all of us and is relatively close to the rivers that interest us in the Tampa area. As of 8:00, 16 April there are more than enough sites available for the week starting 8 March with departure on 15 March. I have reserved site 064. Sites 059 through 070 appear to be available, have water and electric and will take RV / Van, trailer and or tents.

We are looking at National Forest Camp Grounds for the Ocala area week. John is highly confident that he can identify one that will handle all of us. The National Forest campgrounds allow reservations 6 months in advance so we will identify and announce the Ocala and Panhandle campgrounds.

Ok, it’s time to finalize the plan for Florida Week of Rivers 2020, here’s schedule.
Week 1,  Highland Hammock State Park,  Arrive Sunday 8 March, depart Sunday 15 March.
Week 2,  Rodman Campground, Rodman State Park.  Arrive Sunday 15 March, Depart 22 March.
Week 3, National Forests In the pan handle – exact locations to be determined.  A couple days in the Tallahassee area and a couple days in the Pensacola area.  As this will be “boondock” camping with a move in the middle of the week we anticipate the group will be smaller and better able to take advantage of the National Forest sites that generally have no water hook up or electric.  There may or may not be shower / bath houses so be prepared to be totally self supporting on this week.
The rivers we paddle each week chosen based on weather, water level travel time, and the desires of those attending.  If you have a river you really want to paddle let us know.
Participants are responsible for making their own reservation. You are encouraged to book your site sooner rather than later, the campgrounds begin to book up quickly in the fall. As in the past we encourage participants to share sites to reduce costs and the number of sites the group needs.  All are welcome to come for one week, all weeks, or any part of any week.  Please post on the CCGH messageboard if you plan to attend, which weeks you will attend and if you are willing to share your site.

Hope to see you in Florida.

Just giving this a “bump up” since this event, the Florida Week of River,s was mentioned in the December News Letter that just came out. I’ve put this on the on-line events calendar as well.

I will be attending all three weeks of this trip. My hubby (Damian) and I will be RVing it at Site #134 at Highlands Hammock State Park and at Site #7 at Rodman Campground. We are willing to sharing our site w someone in a tent. If anybody wants to skip a day of kayaking to go fishing with Damian, he would be happy to have the company! During the third week, which is located closer to where we live, we haven’t decided yet if I will commute from home for the trips or if we will stay somewhere in the RV or do a combination of both. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!

I will be joining for the first week only, sharing site 063 at Highlands Hammock SP with Vern, and currently travelling solo with tentative plans to extend the return trip to visit friends and sightsee.

I will be joining you for the second and third weeks. Sharing a campsite with Jim Alexander at Rodman. Have you decided where you are going for the third week?

Just posting to see if there is any interest in a 2024 Florida Week(s) of Rivers. My brother-in-law (Bart Richwine) said I need to help start planning it, so here I am! Camping reservations at Florida State Parks can be made about 11 months prior. So if we aim for March 2024, reservations can be made in April 2023 which is just around the corner.

My suggestions are a week in the Apalachicola Area (S of Tallahassee), a week in the Gainesville/Ocala area, and a week in the Tampa/Sarasota area.

Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? Also, who else wants to help me? Many thanks and Happy Holidays to All!

Lori, Nadine and I have been thinking about bringing back the Florida Week(s) of Rivers. I will help with planning FWR 2024. Is your email still what we used on the old week or rivers emails?
