Another fun time at the lower Yough weekend. 10 members went and enjoyed various activities. Including paddling, bike riding, and touring the Falling Waters home designed by Frank Loyd Wright. There was a big rain storm Thursday morning so the water level was up. Friday we paddled the Cassleman and Saturday some of us paddled the Lower Yough at 5 feet. Daryl and Theda did a raft trip on the lower with a guide since they aren’t allowed to rent out rafts if the river is over 4 feet. Some folks rafted the Upper Yough on Friday, with precision rafting in Friendsville, and had a great time.
Beth watched in horror as a raft full of inexperienced people floated over the falls. They had done the Middle Yough and missed the takeout. Luckily they were all rescued and only had minor injuries. That event added a bit of excitement at our campfire dinner Saturday night.
The Ohiopyle area is a great place for outdoor activities and has been a popular club trip for many years. I hope next year we get to do it again. Thanks to Lisa and Chris for organizing it and to everyone who participated.
