HICO is again planning to have a training day for the kids to practice canoeing skills before the 2018 Dick Reese Kipona Canoe Races. We did this last year for a few evenings during the week. This year they plan to have one day of practice on Saturday August 11 with a rain date of Sunday August 12.
If you have ever been in a canoe, if you know the difference between a paddle and an oar, and if you know how to hold the T-grip on the paddle, you are fully qualified to help these kids practice for the races.
Practice will be from the concrete beach at the upstream end of City Island in Harrisburg, near the mini golf and the bath house. There is parking right there.
The plan is to practice from 10 to 12, break for lunch and a round of mini golf, and then practice some more from 130 to 330.
HICO is looking for people who can commit to one or both sessions (morning or afternoon). If you can provide a tandem canoe, that would be great but not essential.
They could also use one or two kayaks for safety boats, if possible.
If you can help out, please contact Guni Beck at gunibeck@comcast.net, or call or text her at 717-623-5464.
HICO really needs some commitments ahead of the date so they can plan.
Thank you very much in advance,
Brian Palmer
