We will be running the Lower Lehigh (Rockport to Glen Onoko) on Saturday meeting at either Rockport by 8:40am to drop off gear then head down to Glen Onoko by 9:30am to drop off cars and pick up anyone else. Please let me know which you plan on so we can watch for you. Then the Upper Lehigh (White Haven to Rockport) on Sunday meeting at the White Haven public put in at 9:00am.
Camping is at Whitewater Challengers base camp located at 288 Stagecoach Road, Weatherly PA 18255. Camping reservations can be made by calling 1-800-443-8554. There are restrooms, showers, dining services, camp store, recreation field, and a paintball target range. For none boating family members there is hiking in the area and bike rentals & shuttles can be arranged with Whitewater Challengers for a fee. There will be a Pot Luck Dinner on Saturday evening for those that want to participate.

With recent rain please note the levels may be up both days. We will have to keep an eye on the levels. I will not run this trip if the water is over 4,000cfs.

I expect I’ll be joining you on the river both days. Probably not the camping tho. Especially if Jill is only going to be boating one or the other day, which is more than likely the case.

Plan at this point due to the fact that base camp is so close to Rockport will be as follows. SATURDAY those of us staying at the campground will head to Rockport to drop off gear and none drivers. We will then meet at Glen Onoko at 9:30am to pick up any others with their gear and head back up to Rockport to launch. Once we get off the river and get back to camp we will have a pot luck for whoever wants to participate or you can feel free to check out the campground food options. SUNDAY we will meet at the White Haven put in at 9am and run shuttle to Rockport. If other people want to run other sections on any of these days please feel free. I am heading the Lower Saturday and the Upper Sunday.

What time are you planning on dropping boats and gear at Rockport in the morning. Not sure, might just swing by there first to drop stuff, but need to know a time to figure out if I’ll do that. Depending on how many people will be doing that it may just make sense for me to head straight to Glen Onoko first and be able to shuttle people back up to Rockport in the van to start the trip.

      Megan,
I can’t make all weekend now as I have to be in Pittsburgh and Ohio with work Monday/Tuesday. So only going to be driving up Saturday for the Lower.

Hey all. Sorry I didn’t have access to a computer for a few days. Here are the answers to the questions though. It takes about 30 to 40min to get from Rockport to Glen Onoko so we would need to drop off gear at Rockport around 8:30-8:45am or something in that ball park depending how long people need to organize before heading to the Glen. As for a head count the numbers keep changing, but it sounds like 6 to 8 depending? In regards to dinner Bart has generously offered to make the main dish in his Dutch oven. I plan to make a dessert, but I am unsure on what any others are bringing food wise at this point. Here is my cell if anyone needs to reach me directly 717-385-7597.

The dam is currently predicting 1,400cfs this weekend on the Lehigh with inflow and outflow. That’s a good level and shouldn’t be a problem, but i will keep an eye on things and keep u posted on here.

Just made our camping reservation at Whitewater Challengers for Saturday night. I believe Jill is planning on bringing baked beans made with some of our honey for Saturday evening potluck dinner. We plan to bring a boat or two, but may also throw in the bikes, hiking shoes for sure, just in case the water levels are crazy high everywhere in the area.

Alright guys and gals. They have cancelled the recreational release and they are going big. Suspected 4,000cfs to 6,000cfs this weekend. So just to give you a general idea somewhere between 800cfs to 1,200cfs I consider the sweet spot for fun and working on your technique. Anything above 2,000cfs starts to look like a different river and starts to get a little more pushy and aggressive. Anything from 4,000cfs and up is pushy, demanding water. To be honest at 4,000cfs and up the swims are long, the holes are bigger and the islands become strainers. You need to be a class 3-4 boater and be able to get your boat where it needs to be. That said I will be running the Lehigh both Upper and Lower sections through out the summer yet and I will be sure to post it on the message board so people that want to see it at average levels can get a chance. Also there are lots of other things such as hiking and what not in the area to explore. So even if you decide kayaking this weekend may not be your cup of tea we are still camping and the pot luck is still on for Saturday night. I made zuchinni brownies after all and someone’s got to help me eat them. If you have questions please ask on here or get hold of me via text or phone call at the number I proivided above. I am holding off on calling off kayaking completely until I see the levels and get up there tomorrow night. Keep an eye on here for further information.

We are at campsite 19A at Whitewater Challengers camp ground for those of u that need to know. As for tomorrow expect 6,000cfs or at least that is what the roamer is. At this point I would say if you have not kayaked the Lower Lehigh before or do not have a solid combat roll do not attempt. I’m going to talk to some fellow guides later when I go pick up my kayak. I’ll post what the plan is tomorrow after talking with them. Keep an eye on here or get hold of me.
