It is time once again for the 20th (?) annual Lower Yough First Timer’s trip. After regretfully having to sit out a year due to a knee injury, I’m happy to be back in my boat and looking forward to a return to Ohiopyle. So far, we have a total of 9 paddlers including myself, but I would like to get the guest list firmed up ASAP so that we can secure our river permits and make camping reservations. I currently have 5 true first timer’s, so I’m still looking for many of my core safety boaters to sign on. I am hoping that we have enough interest to get a group campsite and I will be looking for a volunteer to organize that if the numbers make sense. Otherwise, you will be on your own for camping plans.
Please let me know if you are planning to attend. The trip is open to able Yough first timer’s and Yough veterans alike. I encourage anyone who is considering the trip to make sure you have the skills needed to tackle this solid intermediate run. If you have any doubts about your readiness to take on the Yough, I would encourage you to contact me with questions. I’ll be happy to give you some practical guidelines to help determine if you are ready. I don’t want anyone to have a bad experience because you got in over your head (no pun intended), but if you are ready, I’m sure you will have a great time. I would also encourage you to look to some of the trip veterans who are familiar with your skill level for advice on whether or not the trip will be right for you.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again, so please contact me as soon as you can.
