This weekend June 10-12 Megan Barrick and Jim McDonald will be tent camping at the Kentuck Campgroud and running the Lower Yough section of the Youghiogeny River from Ohiopyle to Bruner Run. This is a 7.2 mile stretch of solid Class 3 whitewater with 20 rapids. You need to have your own gear, solid class 3 boating skills, and it’s recommended you have a roll. We will be doing a standard run Friday, a First Timers Trip Saturday, and a Loop run Sunday. *The first timers trip will not be open to First timers without evaluation if the level is above 2.5ft, because features get washed out and as the level rises so does the difficulty which makes it a different kind of river.* For more information regarding this section and its rapids please refer to the American Whiteatwater website at americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/1687/main
Lower Yough Run Friday, June 10th meeting at the boater parking lot, running shuttle at 10:00am. This will be a standard Lower Yough run from Ohiopyle to Bruner Run with a lunch stop at swimmers and plenty of rapids and play time in between.
Lower Yough First Timers ran by Megan Barrick Saturday, June 11th meet at the boaters parking lot in Ohio Pyle running shuttle at 10:00am. This trip will focus on lines in rapids and river features. If you have the skills, but haven’t ran the Lower Yough before this will be a good day to learn this stretch and experience all the Lower Yough has to offer. Lunch stop at swimmers. You must be a solid Class 3 boater for this run and a roll is highly recommended, cause swims can be long and rocky.
Lower Loop Run Sunday, June 12th dropping gear off at putin, parking at Loop parking lot then walking back over to putin, getting on river at 10:30am. This run goes from the putin to just below Rail Road rapid where you can take out and walk yourself and your gear up the trail to your car at the loop parking lot. People are welcome to run the entire Lower Yough this day, but will be responsible for setting up their own shuttle and finding their own group to continue on with after the Loop takeout.
