Penn Cup Beginner Slalom Races – Aug – Oct
Looking to improve your boat control or become a more graceful paddler? Challenge your precision skills at the Penn Cup beginner slalom series. Six races are held on Sundays, but the real fun is Saturday: Experienced competitors lead a training clinic, and you have all day to practice weaving through the gates.
The streams we use are class I-ish, but the courses are designed to test your maneuvering and river reading skills. If you’re looking for the most challenging beginner course, I highly recommend Riversport (August 19/20) on the Middle Yough.
You do not need a race boat to participate. There are separate classes for different boats, including SUPS. Children are especially welcome, and we have various age groupings for fair competition.
For more information, and to see the list of sites, please visit http://penncup.org/ For some races (Dog Days, Riversport, Bellefonte), on-site camping is available. Riversport even has bathrooms with hot showers.
Advance registration is much appreciated, but you may also sign up at the race site. Just be sure to contact the event organizer ahead of time so your name can be added to the start list. Please include what boat you will be paddling.
