Rather than camping in Pine Creek Canyon this year we have chosen to camp at Pettecote Junction Campground at Cedar Run (about 2 miles downstream from the traditional Rattlesnake Rock take-out). That means we’ll camp at the campground Friday and Saturday nights and paddle the length of the canyon (from Ansonia to the campground) on Saturday. Campsites in the canyon have been deteriorating in recent years and the campground’s facilities are nice (including hot showers). Also, paddling in boats that are not laden down with camping gear should make the canyon run easier.
Pettecote Junction rates are $30 per campsite per night for 2 people and $10 for each additional person ($45 for a site with water and electric). There is a limit of two tents per site and no more than 8 people per site. There is also a limit of 2 vehicles per site. The campground can be reached at 570-353-7183 or online at https://www.pettecotejunction.com/ for reservations.
As in the past, contact me if you intend to participate in the trip. When we get closer to the date, I’ll make a list of people intending to go so they may contact each other for possible travel and camping arrangements.
