We had a good practice with nice weather again last night once we waited for the thunderstorms to pass by. If you are available tonight (Wednesday), please let me know.August 18, 2019 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Harrisburg Inspiring Connections Outdoors needs some volunteer canoe instructors #4144
We had a nice time last week with a few CCGH volunteers and kids from HICO. For most of them, this was the first time ever in a canoe. We will be doing this again on Tuesday and Wednesday this week (8/20 and 8/21). We are still looking for some volunteers. If you want to get more people into paddling, this is one way to do it! Please let me know if you are available.
I have volunteered to coordinate this trip. Let me know if you want to come. We will be at the put-in at White Haven ready to shuttle at 10:00. That means arrive before 10 and drop you boat and gear and be ready to get back in your vehicle at 10 for the drive to Rockport.
You can reach me at 717-887-4220 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’ll be there. I will meet anyone who wants to carpool at the Park and Ride lot on Rt 934 between Rt 22 and I-81 (1790 Fisher Ave, Annville, PA) no later than 8:15 AM. My phone is 717-887-4220.
Here is the latest for the Swatara trip on Monday.
The water level looks good for doing the section in Swatara State Park, so we will meet at the Jonestown/Hershey KOA Campground Store at 10:00 AM. The address is 11 Lickdale Road, Jonestown, PA. From there we will decide how far up the creek we would like to go. We will consolidate boats and leave cars at the takeout before going to the put in.
The sections we usually do are about 8 to 10 miles long and take about 2 or 3 hours, so we will be at the take out about 2:00 pm.
Because this is in the state park, you should have a launch permit.
My phone is 717-887-4220.
Please reply if you have any questions, etc., and to confirm if you are coming.

Right now we have 10 people planning to go on this trip. We will be meeting in Petersburg, WV on Friday afternoon. I’ll post a trip report afterwards.
Because of high water, this trip is canceled. Sorry!March 17, 2019 at 10:19 am in reply to: Red Mo "Race Day" Paddle – Saturday – March 30, 2019 #3822
I’ll be going up to do the race if anyone wants to ride along to race or paddle the creek. Lots of people will be out that day.
Well the Swatty trip was a bust. ☹️ We got to the put in at Swopes Valley Road and that part of the park was closed because of flood damage. We checked out the section from Jonestown to Harper’s Tavern and the two take outs we checked were both steep and muddy, so we bailed out for today.
This is to confirm we will meet at the Lickdale Campground general store at 10:30 AM.
Right now it is about 800 cfs at Pine Grove and 1300 cfs at Inwood. I expect it will come down a few more hundred cfs by the time we put on. That is a good level to do from Swopes Valley to the Monroe Valley Rd Takeout in the park and avoid the strainers that are common above I-81. We plan to meet at the Lickdale Campground general store at 10:30 AM.
I’ll be up there for the race on Saturday and may stay over to paddle Sunday.
