Lori, Nadine and I have been thinking about bringing back the Florida Week(s) of Rivers. I will help with planning FWR 2024. Is your email still what we used on the old week or rivers emails?

Ok, it’s time to finalize the plan for Florida Week of Rivers 2020, here’s schedule.  
Week 1,  Highland Hammock State Park,  Arrive Sunday 8 March, depart Sunday 15 March.
Week 2,  Rodman Campground, Rodman State Park.  Arrive Sunday 15 March, Depart 22 March.
Week 3, National Forests In the pan handle – exact locations to be determined.  A couple days in the Tallahassee area and a couple days in the Pensacola area.  As this will be “boondock” camping with a move in the middle of the week we anticipate the group will be smaller and better able to take advantage of the National Forest sites that generally have no water hook up or electric.  There may or may not be shower / bath houses so be prepared to be totally self supporting on this week. 
The rivers we paddle each week chosen based on weather, water level travel time, and the desires of those attending.  If you have a river you really want to paddle let us know. 
Participants are responsible for making their own reservation. You are encouraged to book your site sooner rather than later, the campgrounds begin to book up quickly in the fall. As in the past we encourage participants to share sites to reduce costs and the number of sites the group needs.  All are welcome to come for one week, all weeks, or any part of any week.  Please post on the CCGH messageboard if you plan to attend, which weeks you will attend and if you are willing to share your site.

This trip is on the Conodoguinet Creek – disregard the link title above. We will meet at 11:00 at the Scott Farm, 301 Bernheisel Bridge Rd, Carlisle. We will float to Willow Mill Park, Silver Spring Township. The trip will be 2 to 3 hours with a break for Lunch or snack. We will drop boats and gear and then run shuttle down to Willow Mill Park.

Currently planning to run the Yellow Breeches on Sunday 23 June. Meet at Simpson Park put in at 10:00, drop boats and gear then run shuttle to Lower Allen Park. Paddel will take 2 to 3 hours depending on water level and pace of the group. If water level get to high I may cancel as this is also a Level 1 class follow up trip geared to getting beginner boaters out on a club trip. Will post here and on the CCGH Facebook group page if the trip gets canceled. Post here if you are joining this trip.

Ok, after extensive research – mostly by John, we have determined that Highland Hammock State Park will accommodate all of us and is relatively close to the rivers that interest us in the Tampa area. As of 8:00, 16 April there are more than enough sites available for the week starting 8 March with departure on 15 March. I have reserved site 064. Sites 059 through 070 appear to be available, have water and electric and will take RV / Van, trailer and or tents.

We are looking at National Forest Camp Grounds for the Ocala area week. John is highly confident that he can identify one that will handle all of us. The National Forest campgrounds allow reservations 6 months in advance so we will identify and announce the Ocala and Panhandle campgrounds.

We have found a campground for the Panhandle week. The campground is Wright Lake Campground, Apalachicola National Forest. For those attending this first week we will paddle Monday 25 February through Saturday 2 March. Arrive on 24 Feb, depart on 3 March and check into Rodman on 3 March. Feel free to join us for the whole week or part of the week. Those attending are responsible for making their own site reservations. Use this website for reservations. https://www.recreation.gov/ . Most sites accommodate trailers however there are no sites (that I saw) with water or electricity so you get to practice dry camping with your rig. I have booked site 18 and I can share my site with an additional vehicle and up to 3 people. I have updated the initial post in this string with this information.

The Yellow Breeches trip tomorrow is canceled for lack of participation. Vern and his grandson Carter are interested in paddling tomorrow so if you want to paddle contact Vern and work out a time and location.

Meet at the put in at 10:00. The put in is at the bridge on Williams Grove Rd where it crosses the Yellow Breeches Creek. There is limited parking on the river right side down stream of the bridge.

The take out for this trip is Simpson Park, 428 N. York Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA. The trip should only take a couple hours, those who want to paddle further can coordinate shuttle and take out on McCormick Rd, or go further to Lower Allen Park.

Dress appropriately for the weather and bring lunch, plenty of fluids and snacks as desired.

Thanks everyone for your interest in this trip. At this point I have to close the trip as we have reached what I consider the max manageable size – 20 paddlers. You can see the list of signed up paddlers in the original post. I will keep a waiting list of those interested in going because it is highly likely that one or more of those signed up may have to back out for some unforeseen reason.

I will send an email to all those signed up asking you to work on pairing up for travel and camping – the campground allows 2 cars and two tents on each site. I know there are a couple people who are traveling in a single vehicle due to events before or after the trip. If needed or if desired I / you can reserve a site and split it two ways instead of 4. We can discuss further by phone or in the email.

With such a large group we can offer two trips each day and split up, all of which can be discussed when we get there and adjusted based on things like weather and length of trips.
